Emergency Appendectomy in UK: A Single Center Retrospective Cohort Study

Background: Emergency appendectomy is among the most common emergency surgical procedures performed worldwide. The current study looks at local data on how appendectomies are in a district general hospital England. Aim: aim of was to assess state practice single center UK and compare with international appendicectomy. Methods: A center, retrospective between May 2018 October 2019. Data collected protocol for18 months 7-day follow up period for patients who underwent appendectomy. Primary outcome measures were primary approach rate negative Secondary conversion, length stay complication rates including site infections, unplanned ED returns readmission. Results: total 226 during 6 months, out which 212 met inclusion criteria. Mean age 32 years range from 92 years. Majority (96.6%) by laparoscopic 3(1.4%) requiring conversion open procedure period. 47(22.2%) did not show evidence appendicitis histological examination resected specimen. More than 72% discharged home within 48 hours admission. Rate SSI less 7.5%. Conclusion: Laparoscopic preferred safe appendectomy; however, high when compared against benchmark.
